Welcome to Shafer MN's Website!

History of Shafer

Shafer was founded in the 1850s and named after an early settler, Jacob Shafer. Hay, ginseng, and potatoes were some of the early crops produced. The railroad running from Taylors Falls to the Twin Cities made Shafer a thriving town during the turn of the century. Car dealerships, a creamery, a feed mill, a general store, taverns and cafes made up early Shafer.

Population

Shafer’s population has tripled in the last 10 years to 1047. Chisago County continues to be one of the fastest growing counties in the state of Minnesota!

The Parking Lot work for City Hall, Public Works, and  Fire Department locations has been scheduled starting Tuesday, September 18, weather permitting.  The line painting will be done later in the week or possible the following week. Please plan to park on the street during the work in progress.
